ToggleCharging Your Electric Vehicle in Pakistan
Electric vehicles charge from a standard supply, but the right setup depends on your voltage, your socket, and your safety rules. This guide explains the basics first.
Home, Dedicated, and Public Charging
Most owners start with home charging. Public stations help on longer trips along major roads and commercial corridors.
Standard 15A Socket
A standard 15A wall socket works for slow overnight charging. Charging takes longer, but needs no extra installation.
Dedicated AC Charger
A dedicated AC charger on its own circuit charges faster and suits daily use. Have a licensed electrician install it.
Public Stations
Charging stations are growing along motorways and commercial corridors. Check availability and charger speed before you travel.
Lithium vs Graphene Batteries
Most current electric vehicles use lithium-ion batteries. Graphene is an emerging option that some makers promise will charge faster, but it is not yet widely available.
To extend battery life, avoid frequent full charges, keep the battery out of extreme heat, and charge regularly rather than letting it drain to empty.
Lithium-ion vs Graphene at a Glance
| Feature | Lithium-ion | Graphene |
|---|---|---|
| Availability in Pakistan | Widely used in current EVs | Limited, emerging |
| Charging speed | Standard, well understood | Claimed to be faster, varies by product |
| Maturity | Proven over many years | Still developing |
| Best for | Most buyers today | Buyers who accept newer technology |
Which charger is for which vehicle?
This is a general guide. The exact connector and charging support varies by model, so please check the model page or ask the dealer before you buy a charger or rely on a public station.
Electric bikes: usually a normal home socket
Most electric bikes in Pakistan charge from a normal home socket. Many have removable batteries, so the battery can be taken indoors to charge. This is the simplest option for daily city use, and it usually needs no special installation.
Electric cars at home: Type 2 AC charging
Electric cars use Type 2 AC charging at home and at AC charging stations. A dedicated AC charger, installed on its own circuit, is the usual home setup for regular use. Have a licensed electrician install it.
Electric cars on the road: CCS2 DC fast charging
At public fast stations, compatible cars use CCS2 DC fast charging. Not every car supports DC fast charging, and not every station offers the same connectors, so check the station and your car’s support first.
Important: The exact connector and charging support varies by model. This guide does not claim a specific connector for a specific model. Always check the model page or the dealer for the vehicle you are considering.
